Refashionized

The Refashionized workshops took place in Alcoy!

On the 27th and the 28th of November and the 4th and 5th of December 2024, the Refashionized local piloting sessions triumphed at the UPV Alcoy campus with an amazing experience that combined creativity, sustainability, and innovation.

These sessions not only traced the inspiring history of fashion from its beginnings but also invited participants to reflect on the environmental impact of the massive purchase of Fast Fashion clothing. In addition, the transformative power of sustainable design was explored as an alternative to building a more conscious and responsible future.

What did the sessions include?

Theoretical sessions

Guided by Dr. David Mínguez and Dr. Raquel Belda, participants first explored the impact of today’s fashion on the environment and workers’ rights, then looked at the extensive history of fashion. They learned about new and innovative sustainable practices in the textile and fashion sector designed to bring about positive change. In addition, a variety of fun and interactive activities were included to complement the theoretical concepts.

Upcycling Lab

In a hands-on, creative workshop, participants gave a second life to discarded garments, transforming them into wearable works of art. Using techniques such as Tie-dye and Bleaching, they discovered how to achieve impressive and sustainable results while reinventing the potential of textiles they no longer use.

Why was it important?

From hands-on activities to inspiring discussions, these workshops encouraged our community of young educators to realise how social, political or economic changes can affect what people wear as well as rethink fashion from a sustainability perspective. They offered a unique opportunity to explore how innovation and conscious design can shape the future of the fashion industry.

A heartfelt thank you!

To all who participated: thank you for your enthusiasm, creativity and your curiosity which led to very enriching discussions for all participants!
